Family History

Introduction

This section allows you to access information about family history sources. The main sources of records used by family historians in the Record Office are church records and census returns. You will not find civil registration records (i.e. births, marriages and deaths) in the Record Office.

In addition to the aforementioned sources you may also find information relating to your ancestors in other sources of records held in the Record Office. You may find the answers to your queries in the section Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS).

Please use the following links and those in the left hand navigator to browse each area of the Family History section.

This information is intended to help you identify the material available in the Record Office, but it will not replace a visit.

Please note that all registers held in the Record Office are on microfilm and to see them you must reserve a microfilm reader. The original registers will not be made available to the general public.
