The Society of Friends in County Durham

This section lists all the Society of Friends Meetings in County Durham for which the Record Office holds registers, copies of registers or indexes. It includes:

Meetings in the historic county of Durham (the area between the rivers Tyne and Tees including some areas not in the present county. For example, Sunderland and Stockton).
A small number of preparative meetings outside County Durham (for example, Redcar, Yarm) as they form part of the Durham Quarterly Meeting.

Records for those areas formerly in County Durham but now part of the areas administered by Gateshead Metropolitan Borough (for example, Winlaton, Ryton, Felling), South Tyneside Council (for example, South Shields, Jarrow, Hebburn) and Sunderland City Council (for example, Sunderland, Silksworth, Whitburn) are deposited at Tyne and Wear Archives Service.

Registers for those areas formerly in County Durham but now part of the areas administered by Hartlepool Borough Council (for example, Hartlepool, Seaton Carew) and Stockton Borough Council (for example, Stockton, Norton) are deposited at:
