This section lists all the Roman Catholic Churches in County Durham for which the Record Office has registers, copies of registers or indexes. It includes:
The list also includes a small number of pre-1837 Northumberland and North Yorkshire churches for which the Record Office has indexes and, occasionally, copy registers.
Registers for those areas formerly in County Durham but now part of the areas administered by Gateshead Metropolitan Borough (for example, Winlaton, Ryton, Felling), South Tyneside Council (for example, South Shields, Jarrow, Hebburn) and Sunderland City Council (for example, Sunderland, Silksworth, Whitburn) are deposited at Tyne and Wear Archives Service.
Registers for those areas formerly in County Durham but now part of the areas administered by Hartlepool Borough Council (for example, Hartlepool, Seaton Carew) and Stockton Borough Council (for example, Stockton, Norton) are deposited at:

All registers held in the Record Office are on microfilm and to see them you must reserve a microfilm reader. The original registers will not be made available to the general public.
