This section lists all the Presbyterian churches for which the Record Office holds registers, copies of registers or indexes. It includes:
The list also includes a small number of Northumberland churches for which the Record Office has indexes but no registers.
Registers for those areas formerly in County Durham but now part of the areas administered by Gateshead Metropolitan Borough (for example, Winlaton, Ryton, Felling), South Tyneside Council (for example, South Shields, Jarrow, Hebburn) and Sunderland City Council (for example, Sunderland, Silksworth, Whitburn) are deposited at Tyne and Wear Archives Service.
Registers for those areas formerly in County Durham but now part of the areas administered by Hartlepool Borough Council (for example, Hartlepool, Seaton Carew) and Stockton Borough Council (for example, Stockton, Norton) are deposited at:
Teesside ArchivesPresbyterian churches do not have to deposit their registers with Record Offices and there are many gaps in our collections. Some registers do not survive while others are still in the care of local ministers.
For each church listed below there is detailed information on the availability of registers and indexes.
All registers held in the Record Office are on microfilm and to see them you must reserve a microfilm reader. The original registers will not be made available to the general public.
