DLI Memorial Book Title

In 1998, to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Great War, Durham County Council opened a special Memorial Book at the DLI Museum & Durham Art Gallery for people to sign and record their thoughts about those members of their family who served during the First World War.

Each November since then, the Memorial Book has been reopened for visitors and has now been extended to include the Second World War, Korea and other conflicts.

If you are unable to visit the DLI Museum & Durham Art Gallery, your thoughts can still be recorded in this virtual Memorial Book.

Simply click on the "Add to Memorial Book" button and send us your message.

In memory of Private Arthur White 35415 Durham Light Infantry served the Regiment 1914-1920 died in 1925 as a result of mustard gas poisoning received during his time in France.
I am his grandson born in 1942 so know very little about him however I have recently been given his pocket Bible which is believed to have accompanied him during his time in France, it appears to have been given to him by an organisation called The Pocket Testament League.
I would like to know if others carried such Bibles and information on this League also how come a Leeds (Yorks) lad served in the D.L.I.
Very proud he played his part.
