Small Transport Project Fund

What is the Small Transport Project Fund?

The fund provides money for local transport improvements in the rural areas of County Durham.
It aims to:

* Improve access to employment/training opportunities, services, leisure and health facilities.
* Increase social inclusion
* Decrease the impact of travel on the environment

How much is available?

A maximum grant of 3000 is available to cover up to 75% of the total project costs, the remaining proportion can be made up from either financial contributions and/or goods in kind (including volunteer time). However, if you are applying for funding up to 1000 we are now able to fund 100% of the project costs.

What type of project will be considered?

The grant can be used for a wide range of purposes:
* Local transport projects
* Volunteer driver training
* Support/start up costs for grant aided community transport
* Marketing your transport scheme
* Local transport information provision

Project ideas might include:
* Car sharing
* Transport to GP's & Leisure facilities
* Walking and Cycling for all
* Taxi buses
* Dial a ride

What kind of projects have been funded?

The Small Transport Project Fund has just entered in to its third year of operation. Since its conception in April 2000 the Rural Transport Partnerships have funded 41 transport projects in County Durham through the Small Transport Project Funding. The funding has been used to support a wide range of transport projects from piloting a taxibus service, assisting Community Transport operators to adopt a corporate image, piloting volunteer car schemes, marketing transport projects, and assistance in volunteer driver training to name just a few.
