How to use the Journey Planner

The Journey Planner will work out the best way of undertaking your chosen journey using public transport. By following the simple instructions set out below any journey using local buses in County Durham, Northumberland, Darlington, Tyne & Wear, Teesside and North Yorkshire or using the national rail network can be calculated using the Journey Planner:

1. The Journey Planner will ask you to select the start point of your journey and where you wish to travel to from the Journey Planner's gazetteer of over 2,600 places. Commonly used place names can be found using the drop down boxes on the left of the enquiry screen, alternatively you can key in your own place names in the boxes on the right of the screen.

2. You must then select the time you wish to depart the point of origin or arrive at your destination and the date on which you wish to travel.

3. Press "Enquire".

4. You may then be asked to choose from a number of places that the Journey Planner has matched to those that you have selected. Using the drop down boxes select the appropriate place and press "Enquire".

5. The Journey Planner will then process the details and present you with the answer that is the nearest match to your enquiry.

The answer is given as an itinerary showing any connections and walk links. If you are unsure of the precise location of any of the bus stops click on the appropriate place name on the line diagram for a map which can be adjusted in scale. For the complete timetable of any of the services used in the answer click on the yellow box marked timetable located to the right of the line diagram. An all day summary of the journeys complying to your request can be obtained by clicking on the button to the left of the screen. To find out about a return journey between the same two points or to ask about a different journey press the keys to the left.
