Paying for Social Services The Social Services Department and the government allows local councils to charge for other services.
We set our charges on an annual basis and we try to keep these as low as possible.
The Reason for ChargingThe government assumes that all councils charge and reduces the amount of money it gives to us on this assumption. It is therefore essential that we charge to make sure that we can keep up the amount of services that we provide to our clients.
You have to pay a contribution towards some of these services, but some of them are free. The amount you pay depends upon your income and your savings and capital. We will discuss this further and in more detail at your assessment.
If you want more information on how charges are worked out for residential care and non-residential services please click on one of the links in the right hand box.
Fairer Charging for Home Care and Other Non-Residential ServicesThe Government has given us guidance on the charges we make for services that we provide. We have produced a charging policy which shows the decisions that the council has made on charging for home care and other services such as meals on wheels and day care.
For more information you can refer to our Charging Policy for non residential services .
