Community Support Unit
Durham County Council Community Support Unit has a vision to promote social inclusion and tackle the factors that create social exclusion. The Unit consists of three teams.
Community Support
The Community Support Team works closely with local communities to help them access the local decision making processes. This involves working closely with the County Councillors and other agencies and authorities. The team has officers working throughout the county. Find out more about Community Support.
Welfare Rights
The main part of the work of Welfare Rights is to enable service users to access the benefits system and maximise their entitlement to benefit. The Welfare Rights Team provides advice and representation to those who have had their claims for benefit reduced, removed or rejected. The Team also provides information and training materials relating to the benefits system. The Welfare Rights Team is completely independent of agencies administering benefit payments.
Community Safety
The Community Safety Team co-ordinates the County Council's corporate response to the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. Its purpose is to support the Authority's corporate theme to promote strong, safe and healthy communities, through working in partnership to promote the safety of communities through crime prevention and reduction.
